Want to see quick results, fill an empty corner of your living room without waiting years, or simply enjoy the satisfaction of watching your plant evolve week by week? Some species are naturally suited for this: several centimeters of stem added each month, new leaves unfurling regularly, a visibly changing silhouette from one season to the next.

This guide lists the fastest-growing indoor plants, the factors that truly accelerate their growth, and the precautions to take to ensure rapid growth remains healthy growth.

What truly influences growth rate

Before choosing a "fast-growing" species, it's important to know that no plant grows quickly in poor conditions. Growth rate primarily depends on four factors: light (the main driver of photosynthesis), ambient temperature (most indoor plants slow down significantly below 16°C), regular watering, and fertilization during the growing season, from approximately March to September.

A "fast-growing" plant placed in a dark corner and never fertilized will remain generally stable, while a more modest species placed in ideal conditions can surprise with its vigor. However, the choice of species remains crucial: given equal conditions, some plants simply double in size much faster than others.

✔ To remember A plant grows almost exclusively from March to September. Don't worry if it seems to stop in winter — this is a natural pause, not a sign of ill health.

Our selection of fast-growing plants

Here are the most recognized species for their rapid indoor growth, with visible results in a few weeks under good conditions.

🌾

Pothos

Very fast growth Very easy

Undoubtedly the fastest-growing and easiest-to-find indoor plant. Its vines can grow several tens of centimeters per month in good conditions, and it can be propagated with surprising ease to multiply your plants for free.

🌿

Philodendron

Fast growth Easy

Almost as fast as pothos, with often larger and more spectacular leaves. Climbing varieties, guided on a moss pole, can grow a meter in one growing season.

🍃

Monstera deliciosa

Fast growth Easy

A new leaf every 3 to 6 weeks in peak season is not uncommon for a well-established monstera. Its growth is even more impressive as each leaf is significantly larger than the previous one.

💜

Tradescantia (wandering Jew)

Very fast growth Easy

One of the fastest-growing plants there is: its trailing stems can double in length in just a few weeks. The downside is that it tends to become leggy at the base over time and requires regular pruning to remain bushy.

🌱

Indoor ivy (Hedera helix)

Fast growth Easy

Climbing or trailing, ivy grows quickly as long as it has good light and a slightly cool atmosphere. It particularly appreciates less heated locations, such as a hallway or entryway.

🌴

Dracaena

Moderate to fast growth Easy

Less spectacular than pothos or tradescantia, but a well-exposed dracaena regularly gains height and develops a characteristic trunk over the years — slower but very consistent growth.

"The fastest growth is never solely about the species.
It's about the species placed in the right conditions."

Comparative table

Plant Speed Care Ideal light
Pothos Very fast Very easy Indirect to medium
Philodendron Fast Easy Indirect
Monstera deliciosa Fast Easy Bright, indirect
Tradescantia Very fast Easy Bright, indirect
Ivy (Hedera helix) Fast Easy Indirect, cool
Dracaena Moderate to fast Easy Bright, indirect

⚠ Fast growth doesn't mean no care

A fast-growing plant also depletes its soil reserves and fills its pot more quickly. Plan for regular fertilization during the season and more frequent repotting than for a slow-growing plant — generally every 12 to 18 months rather than every 2 to 3 years.

Rapid growth: precautions to take

Rapid growth can also reveal weaknesses if not properly managed. Here are the points of vigilance to keep in mind.

✔ Our advice Install a moss pole as soon as the first signs of climbing appear for climbing varieties, before the stems get tangled.
Fertilize every 2 to 3 weeks during peak season rather than once a month.
Regularly prune the longest stems to maintain a dense rather than leggy silhouette.
Monitor roots growing out of the pot — early repotting prevents unnecessary stress to the plant.

Tropical Green Plants Fertilizer 250 ml

Promotes dense foliage and intense color, ideal for supporting a plant in full growth phase.

Finally, keep in mind that rapid growth is not always a sign of good health: stems stretching excessively between two leaves (etiolation) often indicate a lack of light rather than natural vigor. True, healthy rapid growth produces closely spaced and well-formed leaves.
